If your baby is not walking then Encourage walking with activities and create a safe environment. Consult a doctor if concerned.

If your baby is not walking then check if baby has failed to reach a milestone at a given time but appears to be on the threshold of achieving it then a safe option is to review the child a month or so later to ascertain the progress made.

What makes walking take longer and why baby is not walking?

Certain 12-month-olds can walk on their own. By the time a child is eighteen months old, they should be able to walk with ease. In addition to neurological illnesses including cerebral palsy and neuromuscular diseases, late walking may run in families. This is especially true if there is a general delay in speaking, hearing, vision, and fine motor milestones.

Delayed motor milestones can be a symptom of developmental hip dysplasia, spina bifida, and lysosomal storage diseases. Hypermobility can also induce delayed walking.

Milestones to check if your baby is one year old and are associated with walking :

  •  Getting up to stand 
  • walking while clinging to furniture 
  •  taking a few steps on their own 
  • standing without assistance

If your baby is not walking then do this to promote walking :

If your baby shows signs of readiness, consider these activities to boost their self-efficacy and strength.

  • Encourage your baby to walk to you as you extend your hands toward them. 
  • Baby proof the house and let your child explore.
  • Create challenges
  • Praise your child for every step he or she tries to take.

Simultaneously avoid these following things If your baby is not walking :

  • Don't use infant Walkers. 
  • Avoid pushing your own milestone goals. 

When to be concerned about your baby’s walking :

Talk to your child’s paediatrician if baby is not walking at all by 18 months and not walking steadily by age 2.You may also worry that even a slight delay in walking could indicate additional developmental and neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism.

Keep in mind that no two kids are similar, so try not to compare your child's development to that of other kids or get too worked up if your baby isn't walking by the time they are 14 months old. Certain kids pick up walking more slowly than others, but they don't fall too far behind.
